          Abstract

The main purpose of jokes is primarily to make the somebody laugh. A person who likes and is good at telling jokes is very much liked and socially valued. Jokes are most frequently passed on orally and, hence, changed and transformed. A funny and interesting joke must be, above all, understandable, short and accurate. As in the case of other texts, the life of a joke in society depends on many factors, e.g. the political and social situation of a given country (political jokes), the functioning of representatives of specific professions (jokes about policemen, priests, doctors, etc.) or the functioning of institutions in of the state (jokes about school, the National Health Fund Service, etc.). However, jokes can perpetuate dangerous and very harmful stereotypes, e.g. jokes about specific nationalities or origins. In this chapter, I investigate the phenomenon of sense of humor as a form of communication in relation to a social group and another person, as reflecting intersubjective positioning. The basis for the discussion is a corpus of jokes on blondes and the social figure of Jaś (Johnny).
