What Is a Physician?

Abstract

Medicine is a field that covers knowledge, technology, artistic approach and communication skills. The fact that medicine is a multidirectional activity, which cannot be reduced to a single dimension, enables it to be seen as an applied science, an art and a subculture beyond being a profession. Science is analytical, art is a synthetic field. No matter how scientific it is, the artistic side of medicine is dominant, because it has social and cultural fronts. Therefore, it is important for a physician to know that besides being a technician and scientist, he has other characteristics and that his profession is closely related to the whole of culture such as religion, philosophy, economy, literature and art.
