          Abstract

This chapter discusses the impact of the banana weevil borer (Banana black weevil), Cosmopolites sordidus (Germar, 1824) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). It provides an overview of the spread of the pest, its life cycle and the impact on plant health and yields. The chapter then discusses control measures. These include chemical control, cultural /agronomic practices, the use of pheromones in monitoring and mass trapping, genetic resistance and the use of predator species, nematodes and entomopathogens against weevils. The chapter also looks at the link between the pest and disease in banana.
