About

The landmark GENETICS paper by Meuwissen et al.,in 2001 launched an entire field. In recognition of this, we developed a virtual series on Genomic Prediction in the April 2012 issues of GENETICS and G3: Genes|Genomes|Genetics, with the goal of stimulating discussion in the community, and providing data for the continuation of the discourse. This ongoing series continues to grow and provide discovery and conversation and we have reorganized the body of work into a browsable format. We hope that by enabling scientists to navigate among papers of interest in their field, that the conversation will continue. The April 2019 issue of GENETICS includes a compelling review with some thought provoking elements by Wray et al.

We remain excited about the topic of Genomic Prediction and invite articles that push the boundaries. These papers in GENETICS and G3 will continue to be published in journal issues and then organized into this virtual series, thus helping to highlight your important work in the area.

About GENETICS

GENETICS is published by the Genetics Society of America, a scholarly society that seeks to deepen our understanding of the living world by advancing our understanding of genetics. Since 1916, GENETICS has published high-quality, original research presenting novel findings bearing on genetics and genomics. The journal publishes empirical studies of organisms ranging from microbes to humans, as well as theoretical work.

While it has an illustrious history, GENETICS has changed along with the communities it serves: it is not your mentor's journal.

The editors make decisions quickly – in around 35 days – without sacrificing the excellence and scholarship for which the journal has long been known. GENETICS is a peer reviewed, peer-edited journal, with an international reach and increasing visibility and impact. All editorial decisions are made through collaboration of at least two editors who are practicing scientists.

GENETICS is constantly innovating: expanded types of content include Reviews, Commentary (current issues of interest to geneticists), Perspectives (historical), Primers (to introduce primary literature into the classroom), Toolbox Reviews, plus YeastBook, FlyBook, and WormBook . For particularly time-sensitive results, we publish Communications. As part of our mission to serve our communities, we've published thematic collections, including Genomic PredictionMultiparental PopulationsGenetics of Immunity, and Genetics of Sex.

More than just a publisher, the Genetics Society of America is mission-driven and places a high priority on responding to community needs. GENETICSand G3 have long been committed to supporting resources that serve scientists. We were the first journals to partner with Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories to enable seamless deposits of manuscripts from our submission systems straight into the preprint server bioRxiv, as well as from bioRxiv to GENETICS and G3, and we have accepted submissions posted for preprint servers since 2012. Articles feature links to model organism databases like SGDFlyBase, and WormBase. We have also partnered with Overleaf to provide custom templates for authors who use LaTex, saving them time at submission. Our collaboration with protocols.io, encourages authors to freely share methods from GENETICS articles, helping to increase research reproducibility. The annotation tool Remarq is available on both the GENETICS and G3 websites and allows for collaborative commenting and article sharing. Our latest collaboration with Figshare ensures that supplemental material and data files are permanently associated with an article—and that authors aren’t limited by file type or size when providing data that support their work. Early online publication means that research investigations are freely accessible and in PubMed within days of acceptance – which eliminates delays in discovering the latest science.

About G3: Genes|Genomes|Genetics

G3: Genes, Genomes, Genetics provides a forum for the publication of high‐quality foundational research, particularly research that generates useful genetic and genomic information such as genome maps, single gene studies, genome‐wide association and QTL studies, as well as genome reports,  mutant screens, and advances in methods and technology. The Editorial Board of G3 believes that rapid dissemination of these data is the necessary foundation for analysis that leads to mechanistic insights.

G3, published by the Genetics Society of America, meets the critical and growing need of the genetics community for rapid review and publication of important results in all areas of genetics. G3 offers the opportunity to publish the puzzling finding or to present unpublished results that may not have been submitted for review and publication due to a perceived lack of a potential high-impact finding. As part of our mission to serve our communities, we've published thematic collections, including Genomic PredictionMultiparental PopulationsGenetics of Immunity, and Genetics of Sex. G3 has earned the DOAJ Seal, which is a mark of certification for open access journals, awarded by the Directory of Open Access Journals to journals that achieve a high level of openness, adhering to Best Practices and high publishing standards.
