  • Addressing the digital divide
  • Education and the Metaverse • The datafication of teaching, learning and student support • Platformitisation and commercialisation

  • New learning technologies and their impact on pedagogies
  • Increasing access to educational opportunities and • Opening educational practice and publishing
  • ODeL postgraduate supervision • Academic integrity in a ODeL context
  • Student support in an ODeL environment
  • Human resource management in ODeL
  • Support for staff wellness in ODeL

 

III.     Conference Structure

 

  • Pre-conference workshops (14 August) – proposals invited
  • Plenary sessions with keynote addresses by invited speakers
  • Panel discussions where invited experts will debate topical and pertinent ODeL research issues
  • Scheduled breakaway sessions of full paper presentations; work-in-progress and shorter papers will also be considered
  • An ODeL Postgraduate Student Consortium
  • Icebreaker and networking session – 15 August 2023
  • Conference dinner – 16 August 2023

V.      Ethical and Scholarly Etiquette

 

  • The Research and Innovation Conference is organised as a scholarly event.
  • The papers submitted for presentation will be reviewed through the ScienceOpen platform.
  • Authors of selected quality papers will be invited to submit their papers for a book. More details regarding the format and submission process will be communicated in 2023.

Extended abstract

  • 1000 words to present at the conference by 31 May 2023, indicating sub-theme/s addressed and five keywords
  • To be considered for publication in a book to be published in 2024, full chapter of 5000-6000 words, including references, indicating sub-theme/s, and keywords by 15 September 2023

Preparation for submission

For 1000-word abstract the submission document should be a PDF and should contain the following:

  • Title
  • Author details
  • Keywords
  • 1000-word text

Editorial responsibilities

 

The editorial committee is permitted to make changes to the final document, such as editing changes.

 

Final proofs will be signed off by the author. The conference committee chair will sign off for posting on the Unisa 2023 Open Distance and e-Learning Virtual Conference collection on the ScienceOpen platform.

Submission process

The Unisa 2023 Open Distance and e-Learning Virtual Conference uses the ScienceOpen platform to manage the submission and review processes. Submissions will be treated as preprints on the ScienceOpen platform.

 

Complete guidelines for preparing and submitting your abstract to this conference are provided. New users should first create an account.

 

Registration on the ScienceOpen platform requires users to have an ORCID account. Once a user has logged onto the site, submissions should be made via the “Submit manuscript” link.

Who should submit an abstract

The submission process is open to all ODeL academics/experts. All submissions will be reviewed according to how they address the theme and sub-themes of the conference, their academic rigor and the quality of the research design, methodology and findings.

 

Chapter submission requirements will be communicated to authors whose abstract has been accepted for the conference.

 

 

  1. PRIZES FOR BEST PAPERS

 

Recognition will be given for the following papers:

 

  • Best ODeL paper (as judged by the editorial committee)
  • Best first paper in ODeL (as judged by the paper review committee)
  • Best ODeL Postgraduate Consortium paper (as judged by the Postgraduate Consortium review committee)
