Collection details

This collection includes papers related to copyright literacy and copyright education which Secker and Morrison defined as the 'appropriate knowledge, skills and behaviours to enable the ethical creation and use of copyright material' (Copyright and E-learning: a guide for practitioners 2016, Facet Publishing).

The importance of copyright literacy was recognised in 2018 by the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA) who recognised it was important for librarians and educators to understand copyright, both to underpin the services they provide but also to teach others.

Research has been undertaken in this field since 2013 when a multinational survey of levels of copyright literacy amongst librarians and those working in the cultural heritage was first launched in Bulgaria. The International Copyright Literacy survey has subsequently been run in many countries around the world and led to a increased interest in the subject by librarians, educators and those in the cultural heritage sector.
