About

The Canadian Journal of General Internal Medicine is an open access, peer reviewed journal which publishes 4 times yearly. The journal is circulated to all members of the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine as well as specialists with an interest in Internal Medicine.

With a mix of clinical articles as well as academic articles, the CJGIM provides the highest level of content.

The CJGIM accepts submissions under the categories of original research articles, review articles, case reports, letters to the editor, and book reviews. The CJGIM also publishes selected conference abstracts and special supplemental issues.

Peer Review Process

All submissions undergo an initial assessment to ensure adherence to journal requirements, including formatting of the manuscript and disclosure of any potential competing interests. Submissions may be returned to authors for queries at this stage.

The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board will make an initial decision to send the manuscript for review or to reject without further review.  Original research articles, review articles, case reports, and the contents of special supplemental issues undergo peer review.  Letters to the editor, book reviews, and conference abstracts undergo editorial review but are not peer reviewed.

After the review is completed, one of the following decisions will be communicated to the authors: (1) Accept without revisions; (2) Accept with minor revisions; (3) Revise and resubmit; or (4) Reject.  The journal aims to provide authors with a final decision within 8 weeks from the time of submission.

Manuscripts must be submitted in English or French.  At the discretion of the editors, manuscripts may be returned with a recommendation that the manuscript undergo language editing prior to resubmission.

All submissions undergo routine testing using plagiarism detection software.

The Editor-in-Chief and Editorial Board members are fully independent and are not compensated by the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine or Dougmar Publishing Group.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Article Processing Charges

The Canadian Journal of General Internal Medicine, like other open access publications, charges an Article Processing Charge (APC) to individual authors and institutions to offset expenses usually covered by the subscriptions and advertisements of subscription-based journals.

As of January 1, 2018, the CJGIM’s APC is $750 (USD) per article.  The APC will be waived for authors who are Full Members and Physician Associates (with dues currently paid) of the Canadian Society of Internal Medicine (CSIM) as well as for CSIM Resident, Student and Senior Associates. The APC will also be waived for any author submitting original research and review articles.

The APC is billed upon acceptance of an article. There are no additional charges based on color, length, figures, or other elements. Letters to the Editor and select invited articles are not charged an APC.

Authors living in countries not considered “least developed” as per the following list of countries who do not have the ability to pay the APC may be eligible for a reduced APC. Please contact the publisher directly to make a formal request at jbirkby@dougmargroup.com.
