Socialist Lawyer is the print and online publication of the Haldane Society of Socialist Lawyers. Founded in 1930, the Haldane Society provides a forum for the discussion and analysis of law and the legal system, both nationally and internationally, from a socialist perspective. It holds frequent public meetings and conducts educational programmes. The Haldane Society is independent of any political party. Membership comprises lawyers, academics, students and legal workers as well as trade union and labour movement affiliates.

The Journal is published three times a year, in February, June and October. The Journal is edited and written by volunteers, many of whom work full-time in the legal sector, so these publication dates may vary. The electronic journal is archived in Portico. The Journal’s website can be accessed here.
The current editor of Socialist Lawyer is Joe Latimer, who took this post at the AGM of January 2020. Important editorial decisions are shared with the rest of the Executive Committee of the Haldane Society.
