          Abstract

A new method for the synthesis of ultrafine powder of chromium carbide is proposed, which combines liquid-phase precipitation on a carbon support and low-temperature microwave heat treatment in argon flow. The whole spectrum of the intermediate compounds obtained during thermolysis, reduction and carbonization of chromium precursors to the final product Cr 3C 2 is presented. The structure, morphology, particle size distribution, as well as the phase composition and the specific surface area values of the produced chromium compounds are shown.
