Variación -ra/-se en el español hablado en caracas

Abstract

En este artículo se analizan los factores lingüísticos y sociales que influyen en la alternancia entre las formas de subjuntivo -ra y -se en el Corpus Sociolingüístico de Caracas 1987. Se consideraron las siguientes variables lingüísticas y sociolingüísticas: tiempo verbal, polaridad de la cláusula, tipo de contexto, presencia de subjuntivo en la cláusula anterior, edad, nivel socioeconómico y sexo de los hablantes. La forma en -se resultó poco frecuente en el habla de Caracas y las variables que parecen contribuir significativamente al uso de esta forma son el tiempo pluscuamperfecto, la negación, la presencia de -ra en la cláusula antecedente, los contextos de prótasis y apódosis de la oración condicional, los niveles socioeconómicos medio y medio bajo así como la edad de los hablantes (30-45 años).

Translated abstract

In this article we analyze the linguistic and social factors which influence the alternance between the subjunctive forms -ra and -se in the Corpus Sociolingüístico de Caracas 1987. We examine linguistic and sociolinguistic variables, such as tense, clause polarity, type of context, presence of subjunctive in the previous clause, speakers’ age, socioeconomic level and gender. The form -se is not frequent in the Caracas spoken language and the variables which contribute significantly to the use of this form are the plusquamperfect tense, negative polarity, the presence of -ra in the antecedent clause, the "protasis" and "apodosis" contexts in the conditional sentence, the third and fourth socioeconomic strata and the speakers’ age (30 to 45 years old).
