Abstract

Este artículo4 tratará de explicar de manera exploratoria la dinámica socioeconómica de la compra y venta de celulares en el denominado "Barrio Chino" de la ciudad de La Paz. El manejo de la telefonía móvil por distintos sectores de la población ha ido en aumento, dando lugar a distintas formas de su uso social. La utilización de los teléfonos móviles por parte de los usuarios no se redujo simplemente a la realización de llamadas o el envío de mensajes, sino también a la posibilidad de realizar fotografías y vídeos, de conectarse a Internet o de ver televisión en esta "pequeña pantalla". Pero esta nueva tecnología posibilitó que aumente el propio valor del equipo (al ser Smartphone) y se incrementen los actos de robo por algún tipo de delincuencia que posteriormente lo comercializa en el mercado informal. A su vez, este tipo de hurtos no son denunciados por la población que sufre esta acción. Además, existen varios técnicos que pueden cambiar los códigos de dichos aparatos para que puedan de nuevo circular en el mercado, sin que las empresas encargadas de brindar el servicio de telecomunicación sean afectadas.

This article will attempt to explain in an exploratory manner the socioeconomic dynamics of buying and selling cell phones in the so-called "Chinatown" of the city of La Paz. The management of mobile telephony by different sectors of the population has been increasing, resulting in various forms of social use. The use of mobile phones by users are not simply reduced to making calls or sending messages, but also the ability to take pictures and videos, connect to the Internet or watch TV in this "small screen". But this new technology made it possible to increase the value of the equipment itself (being Smartphone) and acts of theft will increase by some kind of crime that subsequently sold in the informal market.
