          Abstract

Experiments employing in situ incubation of the posterior pituitary lobe and washing of the pituitary stalk showed: the presence of MSH in the outflow fluid washing the posterior lobe; diminishing release of MSH from the posterior pituitary lobe into the incubating fluid with time; and that some MSH is released from the pituitary stalk or hypothalamus after removal of the posterior lobe.
