          Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) could be immensely useful in helping diagnose and treat conditions such as heart attacks, enabling abnormal cardiac activities to be continuously monitored and dealt with quickly and efficiently. One lab based in Taiwan is exploring this potential, investigating smart sensing solutions for medical Internet of Things (IoT) applications. Its goal is to help the move towards to the Medical IoT (M-IoT) in the drive to achieve a better quality of life for all.The Si2 Lab in the Department of Electronics Engineering at the National Chiao Tung University (NCTU), Taiwan, is home to a number of research projects and includes the following groups: Wireless, focused on Sub-mW wireless body area network design, OFDM-based communication systems, and biomedical signal processors for mobile healthcare applications; ML-based Eye Disease Detection, focusing on automatic recognition systems based on deep models from medical images; Intelligence Surveillance for Aerial Robot (ISAR), which looks at human detection and tracking, human pose estimation and recognition for public safety, and obstacle avoidance for auto pilot and deep learning for drone systems; STAR, which explores cryptography algorithm, VLSI design of crypto-ICs, SoC platform and side-channel attacks and resistance; and Micro-Sensing, which focuses on digital output readout circuit design in micro-scale variety of electrical signals and silicon based lab-on-chip design for fast medical tests.
