          Abstract

          Resumen Objetivo principal: Documentar la actividad de Florence Nightingale en la Guerra de Crimea, a través de fuentes hemerográficas y epistolares. Metodología: Investigación documental en el diario The Times, entre septiembre de 1854 y julio de 1856, a partir de la comparación con la correspondencia de Florence Nightingale de la misma época, editada por Sue M. Goldie. Resultados principales: La actividad de Florence Nightingale en la Guerra de Crimea, documentada por los corresponsales de guerra del periódico The Times se divide en tres fases principales: las condiciones sanitarias del ejército británico antes de la llegada de Florence Nightingale, la labor de Florence Nightingale en Scutari, el reconocimiento de la población británica a su labor. Conclusión principal: La Guerra de Crimea fue la primera guerra moderna, en la que el telégrafo y los corresponsales de guerra jugaron un papel fundamental. En este contexto, la figura y la actividad de Florence Nightingale, tenaz e infatigable, consigue un efecto multiplicador, gracias a los medios de comunicación.

          Translated abstract

          Abstract Objective: Document the activity of Florence Nightingale in the Crimean War, through newspaper and epistolary sources. Methods: Documentary research in The Times newspaper, between September 1854 and July 1856, based on the comparison with the Florence Nightingale correspondence of the same period, edited by Sue M. Goldie. Results: Florence Nightingale's activity in the Crimean War, documented by the war correspondents of The Times newspaper, is divided into three main phases: the sanitary conditions of the British Army prior to Florence Nightingale's arrival, Florence Nightingale's work at Scutari, the recognition of the British population for her work. Conclusions: The Crimean War was the first modern war, in which the telegraph and war correspondents played a fundamental role. In this context, the figure and activity of Florence Nightingale, tenacious and indefatigable, achieves a multiplier effect, thanks to the media.
