          Abstract

          RESUMEN Objetivo: El objetivo de la presente investigación fue determinar la histología de las superficies radiculares acondicionadas con ácido cítrico y EDTA previo raspaje. Material y métodos: El tipo de investigación es experimental ya que se llega a controlar la acción de la variable, es decir la aplicación del ácido cítrico y el EDTA (ácido etilendiamino). Para ello fueron utilizados 40 premolares sanos extraídos por indicaciones ortodonticas. Los dientes fueron distribuidos aleatoriamente en 4 grupos, cada uno de los grupos estuvo conformado por 10 premolares. El grupo 1 estaba constituido por superficies radiculares vestibulares acondicionadas con ácido cítrico previo raspaje, el grupo 2 estuvieron acondicionadas con EDTA previo raspaje, el grupo 3 constituido por premolares que solo recibieron raspaje y el grupo 4 no incluyeron raspaje. Resultados: La valoración macroscópica en relación a las placas de cemento, el raspaje más EDTA EL 10% existe una presencia normal, el 30% una pérdida parcial y 60% una perdida severa lo cual es estadísticamente significativo. Y los túbulos dentinarios En el grupo sin raspaje 100% existe una presencia normal de túbulos dentinarios, lo cual no es estadísticamente significativo. En el grupo con ácido cítrico el 30% tiene una pérdida parcial y el 70% una perdida severa y el grupo de EDTA el 100% presenta una pérdida severa, ambos grupos demostraron tener una significancia estadística. Conclusiones: Las superficies radiculares expuestas al acondicionamiento EDTA previo raspaje, en comparación con las superficies radiculares acondicionadas con ácido cítrico previo raspaje, muestran diferencias significativas, que evidencian que el EDTA induce a la mayor pérdida de estructura de las placas de cemento en la superficie radicular y evidente precipitación del cemento por la desmineralización, condicionando socavados con o sin precipitación de cemento con una mayor exposición de túbulos dentinarios.

          ABSTRACT Objective: The objective of the present investigation was to determine the histology of the root surfaces conditioned with citric acid and EDTA prior scraping. Material and methods: The type of research is experimental since the action of the variable is controlled, that is, the application of citric acid and EDTA (ethylenediamine acid). For this, 40 healthy premolars were used, extracted for orthodontic indications. The teeth were randomly distributed in 4 groups, each of the groups consisted of 10 premolars. Group 1 consisted of vestibular root surfaces conditioned with citric acid after scaling, group 2 were conditioned with EDTA after scaling, group 3 consisted of premolars that only received scaling, and group 4 did not include scaling. Results: The macroscopic evaluation in relation to the cement plates, the scaling plus EDTA 10%, there is a normal presence, 30% a partial loss and 60% a severe loss, which is statistically significant. And the dentin tubules In the group without 100% scaling there is a normal presence of dentin tubules, which is not statistically significant.           Smear removal and collagen exposure after non-surgical root planing followed by etching with an EDTA gel preparation.

          Low pH aqueous solutions of citric acid have been used in surgical periodontal therapy mainly for two reasons. It dissolves smear after a relatively short exposure time and it has been claimed to selectively remove root surface-associated mineral exposing collagen to varying degrees. The use of low pH etching agents has recently been challenged in both experimental in vitro and in vivo studies based on their necrotizing effect on the surrounding periodontal tissues. The purpose of the present study was to assess the efficacy of subgingival application of an EDTA gel preparation in removing smear and exposing collagen fibers in root surfaces following non-surgical periodontal therapy. Root surfaces which were root planed did not reveal any patent dentinal tubuli or collagen fibers. This was in contrast to the findings seen after root planing followed by etching, where intertubular surfaces were covered by a dense fibrillar network extending into patent dentinal tubuli. In high magnification these intertubular fibers displayed the cross-striated texture typical for collagen fibers. Etching of root planed surfaces with EDTA may thus enhance the effect of non-surgical root debridement in the same way as has been shown during experimental surgical procedures.

            Evaluation of fibroblast attachment in root conditioning with Er, Cr:YSGG laser versus EDTA: a SEM study.

            The regeneration of periodontal support is a main concern in periodontal therapy. This study aims to investigate the efficacy of Er, Cr:YSGG laser and EDTA based conditioning in attachment of fibroblast on root surfaces. This in vitro study was conducted on 81 root plates (6 mm × 4 mm × 1 mm) prepared from 27 single-rooted human mature teeth. The samples were divided into three groups: (1) Er, Cr: YSGG laser conditioning with a G6 tip (2.78 µm, 0.75 W, pulse duration of 140 µs, repetition rate of 20 Hz) for 5-7 s; (2) EDTA conditioning (17%, pH: 8) for 1 min; and (3) the control group which were exposed neither to EDTA nor laser. The viability and proliferation rates assessments were performed using MTT assay on days 3 and 5. In addition, the level of cell attachment was studied using scanning electron microscopy. The data indicated Er, Cr:YSGG conditioning increased cell viability by lapse of time (from days 3-5), with significantly better cell attachment compared to the other groups on days 3 and 5 (P < 0.05). In addition, increasing cell attachment in the EDTA conditioning group compared with the control group was statistically significant on day 5 but not on day 3 (P < 0.05). In conclusion, Er, Cr:YSGG laser conditioning can promote enhance fibroblast attachment on dentinal root surfaces more than EDTA.

              Comparative SEM study on the effect of different demineralization methods with tetracycline HCl on healthy root surfaces.

              Periodontal regeneration through the use of root demineralization received a lot of interest in periodontology. Topical application of acid to dentin surfaces produced a zone of demineralization, exposing dentin collagen fibrils and opening dentin tubules. In this study, the in vitro effects of different tetracycline HCl application techniques were investigated. According to the results of this SEM study, it may be desirable to apply tetracycline HCl using burnishing technique to expose maximum intertubular fibrils and for the tubular openings. However, this technique should be studied when placed in an in vivo system.
