LA IZQUIERDA PARLAMENTARIA EN ESPAÑA: ELECCIONES, PARTIDOS Y GRUPOS PARLAMENTARIOS SOCIALISTA Y COMUNISTA DURANTE LA TRANSICIÓN

Abstract

Los partidos socialista y comunista históricos españoles, PSOE y PCE, fueron las únicas formaciones políticas estatales que lograron preservar su continuidad con los años de la experiencia democrática republicana. Ambos partidos, además, lograron hegemonizar la representación parlamentaria de la izquierda, a pesar de la previsión de algunos intelectuales y de nuevas formaciones que creían que un proceso de cambio político guiado por la corona no permitiría la restauración de los partidos históricos de la época de la segunda república. El PSOE y el PCE presentaban un proyecto político que pretendía no sólo la ruptura con el franquismo sino una tercera vía entre el comunismo soviético y la socialdemocracia de Europa occidental. Sin embargo, en un breve lapso de tiempo ambos partidos tuvieron que abandonar no sólo la idea de una ruptura revolucionaria sino su proyecto político de construcción del socialismo en libertad. El proceso de la transición política permitió al PSOE convertirse en una formación preponderante durante quince años, consolidando la democracia y construyendo un modesto estado del bienestar, que no se diferenciaba de la experiencia del resto de Europa occidental

The Spanish historical Socialist and Communist parties, PSOE and PCE, were the only State political formations that managed to preserve its continuity with the years of the Republican democratic experience. Both parties managed to hegemonize the parliamentary representation of the left, despite the forecast of some intellectuals and new formations which believed that a process of political change guided by the Crown would not allow the restoration of historical parties of the time of the Second Republic.The PSOE and PCE presented a project that sought to not only break with Francoism but a third way between Soviet Communism and social democracy in Western Europe. However, in a short period of time, both parties had to leave not only the idea of a revolutionary break but its political project of construction of socialism in freedom. The political transition process allowed the PSOE become a dominant formation during fifteen years, consolidating democracy and building a modest welfare State, which not differed from the experience of the rest of Western Europe
