          Abstract

          Las experiencias y publicaciones latinoamericanas sobre la enseñanza de y con la lectura y la escritura en la universidad han consolidado un campo de acción y pensamiento a lo largo de la última década. Este artículo recorre ciertas ideas que contribuyeron a conceptualizar los problemas intervinientes y analiza iniciativas desarrolladas en el entorno argentino, contraponiendo el enfoque de enseñar prácticas situadas versus entrenar habilidades fragmentarias. Se sostiene que el debate se ha desplazado desde la discusión sobre si es apropiado o no ocuparse de la lectura y escritura en los estudios superiores hacia la disputa por quién, cómo, dónde, cuándo y para qué hacerlo. Finalmente, la definición de alfabetización académica propuesta hace diez años es reformulada para subrayar los procesos de enseñanza que preservan el sentido de las prácticas implicadas.

          Translated abstract

          Latin American experiences and publications that are centered on teaching about and with reading and writing at the university level have consolidated a field of action and thought over the past decade. This article reviews certain ideas that have contributed to conceptualizing the intervening problems, and analyzes initiatives developed in the Argentine setting, contrasting the teaching of situated practices versus training in fragmentary skills. The author sustains that the debate has moved from discussion on whether or not it is appropriate to be concerned about reading and writing in higher education, to disagreement about with whom, how, where, when, and why it should be done. Lastly, the definition of academic literacy as proposed ten years ago is reformulated to emphasize the teaching processes that preserve the meaning of implied practices.
