          Abstract

          O processo de globalização tem tido um impacto alarmante sobre o futebol brasileiro. A constituição de um mercado mundial de compra e venda de jogadores transformou o Brasil num celeiro de craques para exportação. Há o enfraquecimento do campeonato nacional e os clubes mais tradicionais entram em crise, gerando protestos e frustração entre os torcedores. O valor da mercadoria futebol para a indústria de artigos esportivos e para a televisão faz com que haja uma pressão (em nome da segurança) para a «domesticação» dos torcedores, agora encarados como consumidores. O aparelho policial é convocado para auxiliar nesta tarefa e assiste-se à montagem de uma estrutura de vigilância e de controlo.

          Translated abstract

          Le processus de la mondialisation possède un impact alarmant sur le football brésilien. La constitution d’un marché mondial d’acquisition et vente de joueurs a transformé le Brésil en un grenier de cracks voués à l’exportation. D’où l’affaiblissement du championnat national et la crise des clubs les plus traditionnels, donnant lieu à des protestations et à la frustration des supporters. La valeur de la marchandise football pour l’industrie des articles sportifs et pour la télévision fait en sorte qu’il y ait une pression (au nom de la sécurité) dans le sens de «l’apprivoisement» des supporters, présentement envisagés comme des consommateurs. L’appareil policier est convoqué pour aider à la tâche, et l’on assiste au montage d’une structure de surveillance et contrôle.

          Translated abstract

          Globalization has had an alarming impact on Brazilian football. The establishment of a world market for the purchase and sale of players has transformed Brazil into a store of star footballers for export. The national championship has been weakened, and the more traditional clubs are facing a crisis, generating protest and frustration amongst supporters. The high value of football merchandise for the sporting goods industry and for TV creates strong pressure (in the name of security) for the «domestication» of supporters, who are now viewed as consumers. Police forces are called in to help with this task, and a structure of surveillance and control is being put in place.
