          Abstract

Paradoxical embolism due to the presence of patent foramen ovale (PFO) is a well-established possible mechanism of ischaemic stroke of unknown origin. Mechanical sealing of the interatrial septum seems to be the most effective method for the prevention of stroke recurrences.
