          Abstract

          RESUMEN: ¿Son las redes sociales causantes del despertar masivo de vanidad en la sociedad? ¿O es el ser humano quien las ha utilizado para satisfacer sus necesidades de aprobación social a través de una vida aparentemente perfecta? Este artículo analiza en qué medida las redes sociales han sido utilizadas como un medio para la creación de apariencias de prosperidad total y obtener el reconocimiento social, a partir del caso de la estrella de Instagram Essena O’Neill, una joven modelo australiana que reveló la verdad detrás de su vida perfecta mostrada a través de su cuenta. Además, se estudia desde el ámbito social qué factores conducen a las personas a desarrollar un comportamiento de exhibición pública irreal. Los resultados contribuyen a comprender la conducta social en torno a la creación de vidas ficticias a través de las redes sociales.

          Translated abstract

          ABSTRACT: Are social networks causing massive vanity awakening in society? Or is the human being that has used them to satisfy the needs for social approval through an actuated life? This article analyzes the extent to which social networks have been used as a means of creating total prosperity appearances and get social recognition, based on the Instagram Star Essena O'Neill case, young australian model who revealed the truth behind her perfect life shown through her account. Also, it is studied from the social field which factors drive people to develop a unreal public exhibition behavior. The results contribute to understanding social behavior about creating fictional lives through social networks.
