          Abstract

The intratracheal injection of an ornithosal strain (isolated from human sputum) given to white mice resulted in pneumonia in 70 %. They showed a characteristic pattern of an alveolar and granulomatous pneumonia Therapy with terramycin which started 2 h after infection led to a decrease of pneumonia, in severe as well as in fatal forms. Treatment with terramycin 24 h after infection resulted only in a decrease of severe forms. Chemotherapy changed the morphologic pattern of pneumonias with only an uncharacteristicinterstitial inflammation observed.
