          Abstract

          Translated abstract

The Guanches, pre-hispanic inhabitants of Tenerife (the largest of the Canry Island), arrived to the archipielago between the 5th Century BC and the beginning of the Christian Era. During almost two thousand years they populated the island and tried to adapt to its environmental peculiarities until 1496 when they were suppressed by Spanish troops over a century of fighting, wars and armed conflict. In this work, their demographic characteristics, life expectancy, mortality rates and demographic profiles and the various factors that influenced the differences between the sexes, between "menceyatos" (chiefdoms) and the distinct ecological niches will be presented. It is surprising how a territory as small as Tenerife (2.000 km² offers panoramas so varied
