EU-Japan research and innovation partnerships

Abstract

When combined together, the EU and Japan account for just under a third of the world's GDP. There is little doubt that the longstanding relationship of cooperation, shared values and principles on topics such as democracy and the rule of law and human rights is a critical one for both groups, who are also major trading partners. As one of the EU's closest and more like-minded partners, Japan has steadily developed a close relationship with the EU.
