Con el fin de caracterizar a los pequeños productores y evaluar su participación en el proceso de comercialización de los productos agrícolas, se realizó un estudio en la parroquia San José del municipio Jesús Enrique Lossada del estado Zulia. La investigación fue de tipo descriptiva - participativa. Se realizaron observaciones de campo, censo, croquis de la zona y talleres para obtener información colectiva de las necesidades técnicas, organizativas y de comercialización. Se aplicó una entrevista estructurada al 83,3% de la población. Los datos se analizaron con el paquete Statiscal Analisys System (SAS), se aplicó la prueba de independencia de variables de clasificación mediante el uso del estadístico c². Además se utilizó el análisis situacional propuesto por Fred David para generar soluciones estratégicas. Los resultados evidencian que el 76% de los productores posee parcelas entre 1 y 6 hectáreas y el 84% sólo cultiva 3 hectáreas. El 86% vende al intermediario y no actúa directamente en la comercialización, lo que determina un bajo nivel de participación en el proceso, aunque su relación con la experiencia, la capacitación y la cantidad de hectáreas resultó no significativa (c²; P<0,01). Reconocen su poca organización y participación, pero no la visualizan como oportunidad para intervenir en el proceso.
With the purpose of characterize a study was conducted in San Jose parish, Jesus Enrique Lossada county, Zulia state to small farmers and to evaluate its participation in the marketing of agricultural products, The research was descriptive participative. It were made several observations of field, census, region sketch and workshops to obtain collective information about technical, organization and marketing requirements. It was applied a structural interview to 83,3% of population. Data were analyzed with Statistical Analysis System (SAS), It was applied the independence of variables of classification test c², through the use statistic proposed by Fred David in order to generate strategically solution. The results show that 76% of producers have plots between 1 and 6 hectares and the 84% only the culture of 3 hectares. The 86% sell to the intermediary and there is no a direct action on marketing, which determine a low level of participation in the process, though its relation with experience, training and hectares quantity was no significant (c² ; P<0.01). Producers recognize its little organization and participation, but they do not visualize it as a opportunity to take part in the process.
