Abstract

Este trabajo busca establecer la relación entre los pobladores de la antigua provincia del Paraguay en la etapa colonial y la utilización de la tierra como material de construcción. Los Guaraní manejaban la técnica mixta y los europeos -colonos o religiosos- aportaron los adobes y la tapia. Los territorios se diferencian como áreas de la colonia, de las misiones y de la selva. Esa ocupación se identifica hoy sobre la base del patrimonio arquitectónico en tierra de cada región. Los desarrollos realizados en la región para contrarrestar los efectos de las lluvias torrenciales pueden ser hoy evaluados a partir del estudio de las patologías resultantes. Al diseñar elementos de protección del patrimonio construido en tierra, se busca que su mantenimiento sea el mínimo posible.

Translated abstract

This essay tries to establish the relationship between the settlers of the old province of Paraguay in the time of the colonization and the use that they made of the earth as a construction material. The Guaraní people handled wattle and daub and the Europeans, settlers and clergy, contributed with adobe and rammed earth. In relation to the sites where the different groups were located, the area of the colony, the missions and finally the forest were identified. That occupation is visualized today based on the architecture of earth of each region and city. Nowadays, the developments made in the region to counteract the effects of very heavy rains can be assessed through the study of the resulting pathologies. Designing protection elements for earth heritage seeks for reducing their maintenance as much as possible.
