Abstract

Efectuada con unas copias de las imágenes "originarias", la demanda de limosnas fue uno de los medios utilizados por las comunidades indígenas para financiar el culto de sus imágenes y la organización de las fiestas comunitarias. Documentada de manera fragmentaria desde inicios del siglo XVII esta práctica deja huellas significativas al final del siglo XVIII debido a la campaña ilustrada contra las formas de religiosidad tradicional. El secuestro de las licencias otorgadas por el arzobispado de México, resultado de las limitaciones severas impuestas a la colecta de limosnas a partir de 1790, permite reconstruir los itinerarios de algunas giras de los demandantes y, de esta manera, la amplitud de su movilidad y sus diferentes formas. La práctica de la demanda itinerante es testigo de las diferentes significaciones (simbólicas, económicas y culturales) de la movilidad geográfica para las comunidades indígenas del siglo.

Made through some copies of the "original" images, the demand for alms was one of the means used by indigenous communities to finance the worship of their images and to organize community festivals. Documented in a piecemeal way since the early 17th century this practice leaves significant marks at the end of the 18th century due to the enlightened campaign against all forms of traditional religion. The kidnapping of the licenses granted by the archbishop of Mexico, as a result of the severe limitations imposed on the collection of alms since 1790, allows reconstruct the routes of some tours of the plaintiffs and, thus, the extent of its mobility and its different forms. The practice of the itinerant demand testifies the different meanings (symbolic, economic and cultural) of the geographic mobility for indigenous communities during that century.
