          Abstract

          La información turística juega un papel relevante en la promoción de los destinos turísticos, con una gran influencia en la creación e imagen de los mismos (O'Leary 2005). Por ello los gestores del destino deben conocer qué fuentes de información utilizan los turistas durante la planificación de su viaje y también el uso que hacen de las oficinas de turismo en destino. Con estos objetivos se realizó el presente trabajo. Los resultados obtenidos evidencian la influencia de algunas variables sociodemográficas en la selección de la fuente de información utilizada antes de la visita, así como la importancia de la oficina de turismo como vía para canalizar las demandas del turista y por ende, fundamental para el desarrollo del turismo.

          Translated abstract

          The tourist information plays a key role into the destination promotion, also has a great influence on the creation and on the tourism destinations image (O'Leary 2005). Thus it is important for destination managers knowing what information sources are used by tourists during their trip planning and the use of the tourist offices at the destination. These objectives will be conducted in this paper. The results showed the influence of some socio-demographic variables in the source of information selected prior to the visit and the importance of the tourist office as a channel to achieve the tourists' demands. Therefore the correct management of the tourist information into the tourist office seems to be crucial for the tourism development.
