          Abstract

Background: The present century has been called the century of the person, especially in the field of health. In line with this, a programmatic movement has emerged on person-centered medicine, developed in collaboration with the World Medical Association, the World Health Organization, the International Council of Nurses, and the International Alliance of Patient Organizations, among others. This programmatic movement represents a theoretical principle, as well as a practical strategy both in the clinical care and in public health. Its key concepts include ethical commitment based on Kantian imperatives and human rights and an education centered on the person, among several others.
