Abstract
Circulating B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) concentrations strongly predict mortality
in patients with heart failure (HF). Both cardiac and extracardiac stimuli influence
BNP levels, suggesting that BNP might have similar prognostic value in patients without
HF.
