Un reconocimiento de los actores de la biblioteca pública en Antioquia

Abstract

Entendiendo por actores las instituciones o personas que han intervenido en la biblioteca pública, y sus aportes en el desarrollo de esta institución social en Antioquia, el trabajo describe el surgimiento y desarrollo de esta institución como resultado de la mediación de diversos sujetos, unos desde el orden estatal, y otros desde el campo privado y social; es así como se identifican diferentes tipos actores, que con sus acciones le apostaron al desarrollo permanente y significativo de la biblioteca pública en el Departamento. La metodología asumió un enfoque cualitativo que se fundamenta en el paradigma interpretativo, facilitando la comprensión de los fenómenos históricos relacionados con la biblioteca pública de una manera contextualizada. Se utilizaron fuentes primarias y secundarias. Entre las conclusiones cabe destacar que el Estado, en sus distintos órdenes: nacional, regional y local, se involucró en su construcción como una manera masificar la educación y de llevarla a zonas apartadas. Por su parte, el sector privado hace intervenciones a principios del siglo XX, con el apoyo que la naciente industria local y, ya a finales de siglo, con la intervención de las cajas de compensación familiar. Por su parte, los actores sociales hicieron presencia en diferentes momentos y órdenes; como élites culturales y políticas ó como grupos organizados.

This study defines “actors” as institutions or persons who have played a role in the public library and in the development of this social institution in Antioquia. It describes the rise and development of this institution as a result of the mediation of various players, some of them from state legislation and others from private and public sectors. Thus it is possible to identify various types of actors who, through their actions have contributed to the permanent and significant growth of the public library in the Department of Antioquia. he methodology of this study assumed a qualitative focus that, in turn, was based upon an interpretive paradigm, thereby facilitating the comprehension of historical phenomena related to the public library in its proper context. Both primary and secondary sources were used in this study. Notable among the conclusions, it is appropriate to point out, is that the state, in its different manifestations—national, regional, and local—became involved in construction as a means of supporting education and carrying it to distant locations. The private sector, for its part, has been involved since the early years of the twentieth century with the support of nascent local industry and, by the end of the century, through the support of family compensation funds.
