          Abstract

Hello friends, This is my first editorial after taking over the responsibility of chief editor of the Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery (JCAS). Every honor, every job, and every crown comes with its own set of challenges and responsibilities. Honing the mantle of chief editor of JCAS, I see a multitude of challenges and responsibilities in front of me. But then isn’t it true that challenges make the life worth the effort of living it. It is aptly said, “Don’t limit your challenges but challenge your limits.” The first and foremost challenge unfolding is to fit in the shoes of my predecessors such as Dr. Venkat Mysore, Dr. Somesh Gupta, and Dr. Niti Khunger. These three past editors have been the force behind the success of this journal and behind the respect and reputation that it enjoys at present. I have been a student of these three great personalities as I have learned a lot from them at different stages of my career. The second and probably the more difficult challenge will be to take this journal to the highest level of success and to create a niche for it in the international medical publishing domain. The dream is to see the journal among the top five research journals in dermatology and aesthetics. I know of only a single way to do it and that is to work in the most sincere manner and to give it the best of what I can offer from my side. I will certainly need the help and support of my associate and assistant editors and reviewers in realizing this dream. For any author who sends his or her research paper to a scientific journal for publication, the first and foremost thing that an author appreciates is a speedy decision about his/her paper is a speedy decision about the paper. This is my topmost priority and my endeavor will be to get a decision on any paper sent to our journal within a maximum period of 3 months. I have devised a specific plan for achieving this and there is an important role of associate editors and assistant editors in this whole process. The involvement of these editors will be much more in the journal now than it was in the past. The success of a scientific journal rests a lot on its reviewers. The seriousness and sincerity with which reviewers do their job goes a long way in improving the health of a journal. In fact, it is the reviewers who actually are the backbone of a journal and their job is not recognized in a manner that it should be. I sincerely believe that the reviewers should get a proper acknowledgment, and in this connection, I intend to have the best reviewer award to be given every year to the reviewer who is the most punctual and sincere in his or her review for the journal articles. I hope this proposal gets through in the annual meeting of our association. In addition to the reviewers, another proposal is to award the authors for their quality work. For this purpose, a “best paper award” to be given annually at ACSICON is a proposal that I would like to see the light of the day at our next annual meeting of the association. I am a firm believer of “Those who dream the most, do the most” Waiting for the day when I see this journal among the most respected and most talked about journals in dermatology and medicine.
