Jóvenes en Nochevieja: Una observación participante de Patamban, Michoacán

Abstract

Este artículo intenta retratar a la juventud de Patamban, un pueblo de Michoacán, México. Se llevan a cabo dos reflexiones en paralelo: por un lado se hace una descripción de lo que significa ser joven en tal lugar, y por el otro se realiza una reflexión de índole metodológica sobre las estrechas relaciones entre la observación participante, la interacción con los sujetos estudiados y la subjetividad del investigador. Al inicio del artículo se presenta un fragmento del diario de campo, posteriormente se reflexiona sobre la observación participante y, por último, se muestra aquello que define a los jóvenes de Patamban: los eventos que delimitan esta etapa de su vida y aquello que los caracteriza como grupo y género.

Translated abstract

This article attempts to portray the youth of Patamban, a village in Michoacán, Mexico. It offers two parallel reflections: first, a description of what it means to be young in Patamban; and second, a methodological discussion of the close ties between participant observation, interaction with the subjects studied, and the researcher's subjectivity. The article begins with a fragment of the field journal; then a methodological reflection explores participant observation and finally the meaning of being young in Patamban, the events that define this stage of life, and what characterizes these young people as a group and gender.
