          Abstract

          In order to check new calculation results on critical slabs, numerical calculations have been done with a discrete ordinates method. The critical thickness of reflected slabs with various degrees of anisotropic scattering has been determined. In general, the agreement with the new calculation results is good. However, for thin slabs the deviations may be larger than one per cent, so some of these cases were studied in more detail.

          Kurzfassung

          Um die Ergebnisse neuer Berechnungen für kritische Platten zu prüfen, wurden numerische Berechnungen mit einer Methode von diskreten Ordinaten durchgeführt. Die kritische Dicke reflektierender Platten wurde für verschiedene Grade anisotroper Streuung bestimmt. Im Allgemeinen stimmen die Resultate mit den Ergebnissen der neuen Berechnungen überein. Für dünne Platten können die Abweichungen allerdings 1% übersteigen. Darum wurden einige solcher Fälle im Einzelnen studiert.

          The reflected critical slab problem for one-speed neutrons with strongly anisotropic scattering

          The Chebyshev polynomial approximation is used to solve the reflected critical slab problem for one-speed neutrons in a slab with strongly anisotropic scattering. The scattering kernel which is a combination of backward-forward-isotropic scattering and linearly anisotropic scattering is chosen in a uniform finite slab. The critical slab thicknesses are given for different degrees of reflection, backward-forward and linear anisotropy. Calculated numerical results for the critical thickness are in good agreement with the results available in literature.
