          Abstract

          Enabling autonomous technology in construction offers expeditious and precise assembly and changes work condition. Due to structural dimensions and complexity, construction process becomes more and more challenging to project execution and workers. The solution toward these construction projects is autonomous construction process which integrates structural members with prefabricated connectors into a real-time unmanned hoisting system, allowing a reduced construction period. For the workers involved in construction projects, autonomous construction results in a safer work environment, which reduces their work load and enables them to perform more challenging construction projects. For companies, autonomous technologies enable them to perform large-dimension, high-quality construction projects, which could lead to architectural innovations and enable companies to overcome some of the construction challenges. Given the numerous, far-reaching benefits of automation in the construction sector, it is hardly surprising that researchers from around the world are working tirelessly to help realise the potential that automation affords. At National Taiwan University, one team of researchers is working towards this goal Ð specifically, their overarching aim is to remove the need for workers to be in high places. Together with their collaborators at the University of Michigan, US, the group are proposing an automated beam assembly method that presents several opportunities.
