Abstract

Resumen El Desarrollo Sostenible constituye uno de los desafíos más importantes para la humanidad. Dada la relevancia de este proceso, es susceptible de ser analizado y definido. Se aplica una metodología de revisión bibliográfica con el propósito de recopilar de manera ordenada definiciones, críticas y extensiones del concepto de Desarrollo Sostenible. Se logra segmentar posturas teóricas, académicas y políticas y clarificar su participación en los debates actuales. Se concluye que la actual noción de Desarrollo Sostenible es resultado de la evolución de conceptos previos; en tanto, su significado continúa en disputa en ámbitos académicos, políticos e institucionales.

Abstract Sustainable Development constitutes one of the most important challenges for humanity. Given the relevance of this process, it is worthy of being analyzed and defined. A bibliographic review methodology is applied with the purpose of collecting definitions, criticisms, and extensions of the concept of Sustainable Development in an orderly manner. It is possible to segment theoretical, academic, and political positions and clarify their participation in current debates. It is concluded that the current notion of Sustainable Development is the result of the evolution of previous concepts; meanwhile, its meaning continues to be disputed in academic, political, and institutional spheres.
