Abstract

Este artículo analiza la relación entre el cine y la historia y la representación de la historia en el cine, tomando para esto la producción cinematográfica de los chilenos en el exilio a través de un análisis del caso particular de la película Llueve Sobre Santiago, filmada en Francia y Bulgaria, y dirigida por el cineasta Helvio Soto en 1975. El artículo da cuenta de la doble funcionalidad de la película, ya que por un lado representa un suceso histórico y, por el otro, se convierte en la expresión de la identidad en el exilio. La película tiene una función política, ya que estuvo al servicio de una causa política y trató de convertirse en un método de documentación, educación, información y denuncia de lo que estaba sucediendo en Chile. De ahí que dicha producción respondiera al imaginario de sus realizadores y se convierta en un testimonio histórico y en una valiosa fuente documental que nos permite introducirnos en los aspectos ideológicos de los cineastas exiliados y en su intención de apelar a la reconstrucción de los lazos entre lo social y lo político -aplastados por la dictadura- para así ayudar a la reconfiguración de la memoria colectiva de la izquierda chilena.

Translated abstract

This article examines the relationship between film and history and the representation of history in films, using for the study the film production of Chileans in exile through an analysis of the particular case of the film Raining on Santiago, filmed in France and Bulgaria and directed by filmmaker Helvio Soto in 1975. The article reports on the double functionality of this film: it represents a historical event and becomes the expression of identity in exile. This film has a political function since it was at the service of a political cause. In addition, the film tried to become a method of documentation, education, information and denouncing of what was happening in Chile. Hence, this production responded to the imagery of the filmmakers and became a historical record and a valuable documentary source that allows us to enter the ideological aspects of the exiled filmmakers and their intention to appeal to rebuild ties between the social and the political -crushed by the dictatorship- in order to help the reconfiguration of the collective memory of the Chilean left.
