          Abstract

ABSTRACT Allergic rhinitis (AR) is one of the most common chronic diseases in children. However, it remains underdiagnosed and undertreated. Its prevalence has increased in recent years and varies from 2 to 25 %. Symptoms include sneezing, itching, runny nose, and nasal congestion. A correct diagnosis and treatment of AR and its comorbidities such as rhinosinusitis with or without nasal polyposis, conjunctivitis, otitis media, bronchial asthma and respiratory tract infections, are important to reduce the negative impact on the quality of life of the patient and their relatives, and in medical costs. Specific allergen immunotherapy, in correctly selected patients, prevents new sensitizations and reduces bronchial hyperreactivity associated with AR. Taking into account all these reasons, the National Allergy Committee of the Sociedad Argentina de Pediatría proposes current evidence based recommendations.

Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma (ARIA) guidelines: 2010 revision.

Allergic rhinitis represents a global health problem affecting 10% to 20% of the population. The Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma (ARIA) guidelines have been widely used to treat the approximately 500 million affected patients globally. To develop explicit, unambiguous, and transparent clinical recommendations systematically for treatment of allergic rhinitis on the basis of current best evidence. The authors updated ARIA clinical recommendations in collaboration with Global Allergy and Asthma European Network following the approach suggested by the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation working group. This article presents recommendations about the prevention of allergic diseases, the use of oral and topical medications, allergen specific immunotherapy, and complementary treatments in patients with allergic rhinitis as well as patients with both allergic rhinitis and asthma. The guideline panel developed evidence profiles for each recommendation and considered health benefits and harms, burden, patient preferences, and resource use, when appropriate, to formulate recommendations for patients, clinicians, and other health care professionals. These are the most recent and currently the most systematically and transparently developed recommendations about the treatment of allergic rhinitis in adults and children. Patients, clinicians, and policy makers are encouraged to use these recommendations in their daily practice and to support their decisions. Diagnosis and Management of Allergic Rhinitis in Children.

Allergic rhinitis is one of the most common chronic diseases managed by pediatricians. It can result in a significant burden of disease for the patient and their family. This article reviews classification of this condition as well as its pathophysiology, mediated by a Th2 lymphocyte response. Methods of diagnosis via elicitation of a thorough history, focused physical examination, and testing for specific allergen sensitization are discussed. Treatment of this condition is examined, focusing on allergen avoidance and a variety of available pharmacotherapies. Finally, allergen immunotherapy modalities and their potential for disease-modifying effects as well as their potential risks and benefits are outlined. [Pediatr Ann. 2019;48(12):e485-e488.].
