Abstract

This article is a reaction to an Australian riverbank-repair project in 2019, reflecting on river-property rights in the age of the Anthropocene. Rather than piecemeal amelioration, perhaps ancient floodplains should be leased from the river as a matter of public policy, especially when climate change will exacerbate flooding in eastern Australia.
