          Abstract

Engagement in physical activity is an essential part of an older person. However, there is inconclusive evidence about the level of participation in physical activity among older persons in institutions in Malaysia. In this cross-sectional study, 331 older persons who live in elderly institutions participated in this study. The results indicated that the majority of older persons in institutions have low participation in physical activity. The normal cognitive function group has a higher level of participation in physical activity compared to older persons with mild neurocognitive disorder and Dementia. Physical functioning and mental health predict participation in physical activity.
