          Abstract

The objective of the present investigation is to determine the variables associated with the Burnout syndrome (SBO) in officials of a penitentiary center in the city of Arica, Chile. We designed a retrospective ex post facto study with descriptive correlational scope, with a sample of 290 subjects. Applying the criteria of Gil-Monte and Peiró (2000), it was found that 164 participants (56.6%), 124 (42.8%) and 194 (66.9%) experienced high levels of SBO in RP, AE and DP, and the prevalence of SBO affects 21.4%. It was observed that, according to the presence of SBO (low, medium and high), there were associations between it and some sociodemographic variables, it is important to highlight how in the results of the interaction with the stress levels observed (average levels), you can see the correspondence with what Maslach (2003) proposed, pointing out that Burnout Syndrome is a response to chronic or high stress. Likewise, it can be observed that there are also subjects that present the SBO, with low levels of stress, this may be due to the instrument used to evaluate the Physical and Psychoemotional Stress Indicators, for which the variety in its emotional and physical states varies. according to the moment in which the test was applied, with which the person can experience at that specific moment lower levels of stress.
