On one hand, it was stated in this study to explore the representations the students of the Integral Basic Education Career (CEBI, in Spanish) have about building their professional identity and, on the other, to analyze in what way the identity referents built during their university education respond to the educational demands of the current time. It is framed within qualitative research and it uses the biographical narrative approach, because it leads to the analysis of perceptions of the subjects trough their voices. It was performed on students of the 1st and 10th semester of the CEBI at the ULA Táchira, to whom instruments such as biograms, autobiographical tales and interviews were applied. The findings allow to affirm that biographical narrative is appropriate to get closer to professional identity because makes it easier, from the reference frames of the students, to interpret how much they separate themselves or get closer to building their teacher identity. Just as well, it evidences the individual and communitarian identity process, as a result of experiences and events that make the acknowledgement of the complexity of the teacher professional being. In consequence, it can be concluded that teacher’s identity is dynamic and makes up an entity that brings reflection during the path of university education.
