          Abstract

          Resumen Nivel de satisfacción de los familiares de pacientes ingresados en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos del Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Canarias con un nuevo protocolo de visitas e información. Método. Del total de pacientes dados de alta de la UCI en los años 2019, 2020 y acumulado a mayo del 2021, se eligió una muestra de forma aleatoria en los pacientes sin patología Covid-19. Los pacientes con patología Covid-19 se seleccionaron en su totalidad. Se contactó con familiares para realizar encuesta de satisfacción. Conclusiones. La implementación del nuevo protocolo ha conseguido un mayor nivel de satisfacción de los Usuarios.

          Abstract Level of satisfaction of relatives of patients admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of the Complejo Hospitalario Universitario de Canarias with a new protocol for visits and information. Method. From the total number of patients discharged from the ICU in the years 2019, 2020 and accumulated to May 2021, a sample was randomly selected from patients without Covid-19 pathology. Patients with Covid-19 pathology were selected in their entirety. Family members were contacted to conduct a satisfaction survey. Conclusions. The implementation of the new protocol has achieved a higher level of user satisfaction.

            Multidisciplinary team training to enhance family communication in the ICU.

            Current guidelines from the U.S. Society for Critical Care Medicine state that training in "good communication skills...should become a standard component of medical education and ... available for all ICU caregivers". We sought to train multidisciplinary teams of ICU caregivers in communicating with the families of critically ill patients to improve staff confidence in communicating with families, as well as family satisfaction with their experiences in the ICU.
