          Abstract

          Translated abstract

Abstract: A case of cryptic polychromatism and myrmecophily in the early stages of Rekoa marius (Lucas) (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae: Theclinae) are presented. Observations were made through the inspection of both the inflorescence and foliage of Acalyma wilkesiana Müll. Arg. and the rearing of five larvae under laboratory conditions. All caterpillars found in this study showed myrmecophilous interactions with carpenter ants (Camponotus lindigi Mayr) as well as changes in the epithelial coloration associated with a cryptic larval polychromatism defense strategy. In addition, we recorded preferences in the time caring for larval Rekoa by carpenter ants, influenced by caterpillar feeding behavior. A parasitic wasp, Tenuipetiolus sp. (Hymenoptera: Eurytomidae), attacked the pupal stage of Rekoa marius, this being the first Lepidoptera host record for this parasitoid. Illustrations of larva and pupa, the myrmecophilous interactions and parasitoid studied in this paper are provided.
