Abstract
We have demonstrated that a genetic polymorphism in the antioxidant protein haptoglobin
is important in determining which patients develop restenosis after percutaneous transluminal
coronary angioplasty. Knowledge of the haptoglobin phenotype may be useful in the
assessment and utilization of new therapies to reduce restenosis, particularly in
patients who are homozygous for the haptoglobin 2 allele.
