Users’ Perception towards Energy Efficient Buildings

Abstract

A well-designed energy efficient building maintains the best environment for human habitation while minimising the cost of energy. The energy efficient buildings are to improve the comfort levels of the occupants and reduce energy use (electricity, natural gas, etc) for heating, cooling and lighting (Development and Land Use Policy Manual for Australia, 2000 and United Nations, 1991). This paper is an inquiry to investigate the users' perceptions towards lights and space of energy-efficient buildings. The research is based on qualitative and quantitative data collection. The findings revealed that users have mixed feeling towards light and space especially with the use of new working practices i.e. hot desking, hotelling etc.
