          Abstract

          El artículo resulta de una investigación sobre las relaciones conflictivas entre alumnos y profesores de los quintos años de la enseñanza fundamental en dos escuelas públicas en Porto Alegre, Brasil, que se caracterizarían por fenómenos relacionados a la violencia psicológica y/o asedio moral vertical ascendiente hacia los docentes. Envolvió 18 docentes, utilizando entrevistas individuales y grupos focales. Los análisis cualitativos de los resultados apuntan esas prácticas por parte de los alumnos, pero los docentes no las han identificado en cuanto tales. Género, edad, tiempo de profesión y área de enseñanza fueron irrelevantes. Las repercusiones, en términos de salud/ enfermedad, fueron descritas de forma contundente e incluyen trastornos psíquicos y psicosomáticos. Se discutió la dificultad de la asertividad de los docentes con sus roles cuando son el blanco de esas violencias y cuando, muchas veces, no hay formación para el enfrentamiento, apoyo de las instituciones a que están vinculados y/o adhesión a tratamientos médicos eficaces. La profundización de investigaciones, no sólo dará voz y visibilidad a los docentes, sino también delimitará y conceptualizará las ocurrencias en las escuelas.

          Translated abstract

          This article is the result of a study on adverse relationships between students and teachers from the fifth grade (primary education) in two public schools in Porto Alegre, characterized by psychological violence and/or vertical moral harassment directed at teachers. The study population consisted of 18 teachers, using focal groups and individual interviews. Qualitative analysis of the results suggests students are engaging in these practices, but they are not being identified by the teachers. Findings were not related to sex, age, seniority or teaching area. The impacts, in terms of health and disease, were described forcefully and included psychological and psychosomatic disorders. Barriers to teachers asserting their roles when they are targets of violence and when they lack training in handling confrontations, institutional support or adherence to effective medical treatment, were discussed. More research in this area will not only increase awareness among teachers, but should further delimit and conceptualize these episodes in schools.
