Abstract

En el presente artículo, analizaré la última novela del ciclo La guerra silenciosa, de Manuel Scorza, La tumba del relámpago. Sostengo la hipótesis de que esa novela no es una mera continuación de las primeras cuatro del ciclo, sino una reescritura y reinterpretación radical de ellas, que cuestiona las bases ideológicas de la representación de los conflictos entre campesinos, hacendados y una empresa multinacional en Cerro de Pasco a partir de fines de la década de 1950, tal como se habían representados en las otras novelas del ciclo. Analizaré, sobre todo, el proceso de la toma de conciencia política por parte de los indígenas/mestizos, la conexión entre el uso de elementos de la mitología indígena y la historia/historiografía, y la relación entre movimiento campesino e intelectuales. Según mi hipótesis, en última instancia la novela trata de reafirmar la función de los letrados/intelectuales en la lucha campesina y su importancia para la sociedad peruana.

In this article, I will analyze La tumba del relámpago, the last novel in the five-novel series La guerra silenciosa, by Manuel Scorza. I argue that this novel is not merely a continuation of the four other novels of the series, but rather a radical rewriting and reinterpretation of them, calling into question the ideological basis of the depiction in the other novels of the series of the conflict between peasants, landowners, and multinational corporations in Cerro de Pasco from the late 1950s onwards. I will focus on the gradual awakening of a political consciousness among the indigenous and mixed race population, the connections between the use of elements of indigenous myth and history/ historiography, and the relationship between the peasant movement and intellectuals. I maintain that, ultimately, the novel aims to reaffirm the political role of intellectuals in the peasant struggle and their importance within Peruvian society as a whole.
