          Abstract

Stress is a phenomenon associated with modern society. It is becoming increasingly more evident that stress results in physical symptomatology and eventual disease. Roy's adaptation model provides a framework to help nurses understand human adaptive responses and interventions that can be used to foster adaptation and minimize stress. Regardless of the presenting reason for nursing intervention, stress-reducing interventions in addition to disease-specific aspects of care can be initiated to augment nursing treatment and foster health promotion.
