ENSINO DE LÍNGUAS COMO PALCO DE POLÍTICA LINGUÍSTICA: MOBILIZAÇÃO DE REPERTÓRIOS SOBRE GÊNERO, Translated title: LANGUAGE TEACHING AS A STAGE OF LANGUAGE POLITICS: MOBILIZATION OF GENDER REPERTOIRES

Abstract

RESUMO Com o objetivo de discutir que o ensino de línguas é palco de política linguística (RAJAGOPALAN, 2011), começamos este artigo ressaltando que políticas linguísticas e educacionais são discursos e textos produzidos por múltiplas fontes e resultantes de muitas disputas (LOPES, 2006). Exemplificamos dois desses campos em disputa nos valendo do mais recente texto legal da Educação Básica, a Base Nacional Comum Curricular. O primeiro campo se refere ao estabelecimento da língua inglesa como componente curricular obrigatório da área de Linguagens nos Anos Finais do Ensino Fundamental, e o segundo, à supressão dos termos gênero e orientação sexual do documento. Argumentamos também que as políticas influenciam, mas não determinam o que acontece nas práticas escolares (LOPES, 2006) e recorremos a Biesta (2015) para salientar que, em última instância, cabe às/aos professoras/es as decisões sobre os três propósitos educacionais - qualificação, socialização e subjetificação -, pelo fato de lidarem constantemente com situações novas que exigem julgamento contextual. Em seguida, evidenciamos que o enfoque do nosso grupo de pesquisa tem sido nos domínios subjetificação e socialização e que temos nos fundamentado em teorizações da Linguística Aplicada Crítica, da Pedagogia Queer e do Pensamento Decolonial. Por fim, apresentamos um breve recorte desse nosso trabalho, retirado de uma pesquisa de mestrado, cujo contexto foi uma sala de aula de língua inglesa de uma escola pública de Goiânia (HOELZLE, 2016). Esse recorte, em que identidades de gênero são problematizadas, evidencia que, ao privilegiar a subjetificação e a socialização, não estamos fortalecendo o inglês, mas sim as pessoas que usam essa língua.

Translated abstract

ABSTRACT In order to discuss language teaching as a stage of language politics (RAJAGOPALAN, 2011), we begin this article by pointing out that linguistic and educational policies are discourses and texts produced by multiple sources and resulting from many disputes (LOPES, 2006). We exemplify two of these disputed fields using the most recent legal text of Basic Education, a Base Nacional Comum Curricular (National Curricular Common Base). The first field refers to the establishment of the English language as a compulsory curricular component of the area of Languages in the final years of Ensino Fundamental (Elementary Education), and the second refers to the deletion of the terms gender and sexual orientation of the document. We also argue that policies influence, but do not determine what happens in school practices (LOPES, 2006) and we resort to Biesta (2015) to point out that, ultimately, it is up to teachers to make decisions about the three educational purposes - qualification, socialization and subjectification - as they constantly deal with new situations that require contextual judgment. Next, we highlight that the focus of our research group has been on subjectification and socialization and that we have drawn on theorizations of Critical Applied Linguistics, Queer Pedagogy and Decolonial Thinking. Finally, we present a brief discussion of our work, taken from a Master’s study, the context of which was an English-language classroom of a public school in Goiânia (HOELZLE, 2016). This discussion, in which gender identities are problematized, shows that, by privileging subjectification and socialization, we are not promoting English, but rather the people who use that language.
