          Abstract

New data on the diversity and geographical distribution of lichenicolous Tremellales and Filobasidiales in the Nordic countries is presented. One new species, Tremella rhizocarpicola, is formally described. Tremella pertusariae and T. protoparmeliae are reported as new to the Nordic countries, Syzygospora physciacearum is new to Iceland, Tremella rinodinae is new to Sweden, and T. caloplacae is new to Norway. Nine species are reported as new to a number of Swedish provinces, including Biatoropsis usnearum, Syzygospora bachmannii, S. physciacearum, Tremella caloplacae, T. cetrariicola, T. cladoniae, T. coppinsii, T. diploschistina, and T. hypogymniae.

Tremella diploschistina (Tremellales, Basidiomycota, Fungi), a new lichenicolous species growing on Diploschistes

Several specimens of a lichen-inhabiting Tremella , inducing the formation of pale yellow, dark brown or black galls on species of Diploschistes , have been collected in three localities in Sweden and in one locality in the USA. Morphological and molecular studies confirm that this material represents a single species, which differs from other described Tremella species in the combination of gall morphology, basidium morphology, basidium and basidiospore sizes, presence of thick-walled hyphidia, and a different host-selection. We consequently describe this fungus as Tremella diploschistina sp. nov., on the basis of morphology and phylogenetic analyses of ITS and nLSU sequences. The phylogenetic analyses reveal that the fungus clearly belongs in Tremella , although the relationships with other species in the genus remain unclear.

Tremella macrobasidiata (Basidiomycota, Tremellales), a new lichenicolous fungus from the Iberian Peninsula

Tremella macrobasidiata is a proposed new species for a lichenicolous heterobasidomycete strictly parasitizing the hymenium of Lecanora chlarotera . It is reported from Spain, and is characterized by large and particularly variable basidia, rather large basidiospores and the production of asteroconidia, forming brownish to dark green galls in the specific host apothecia. The presence of asteroconidia is discussed. Comparisons with closely related lichenicolous Tremella species are also provided.
